What is Colorado Dancesports' cancellation policy?

In order to make sure that you are not charged for a lesson, we request a 24-hour notice of cancellation.  Of course there are always extenuating circumstances and we will always take those into consideration if cancellation is received within 24 hours of scheduled lesson.

Due to the ever changing weather here in Colorado we do not require a 24-hour notice for severe weather related cancellations.

-Monday – Thursday

   10:00am – 9:30pm

-Friday

   10:00am – 10;30pm

-Saturday & Sunday

   By appointment only

What do I wear?

We suggest that you wear something comfortable that you can move in without feeling restricted.  If you do not have dance shoes, we suggest wearing a shoe that has a thin, smooth sole and will keep your foot secure. Ladies are welcome/encouraged to wear heels, but keep in mind the shoe should fit securely and hug your foot.

Do I need a partner?

You do not need a partner to take a private lesson or to attend our group classes.  There are many students who do not have partners in the group classes and all of our instructors are experts in rotating partners and making sure that everyone gets to dance with a partner.

When can I take my lessons?

We always do our best to accommodate times that work for you. A “private lesson” is a one-on-one individualized lesson with an instructor.  This does not mean that you will have the studio to yourself during the lesson. Often there are many private lessons occurring at the same time on the main dance floor.  If you would like to have a private lesson without anyone else around arrangements can sometimes be made.

What dances can I learn?

Here at Colorado Dancesport we teach all forms of partnership dancing including, but not limited to: Ballroom, Latin, Social, Night-Club, Country, Salsa, Swing, Hustle, West Coast, and Competitive Dancesport.

Do you have classes for different ages of students?

We offer private and group classes for adults, teens and pre-teens. Our oldest student is over 80 years old; our youngest is 4 years old. We welcome any student who is at least 4 years of age.

Will I have a male or female instructor?

We will determine which instructor is best for you based on your dance experience, needs and goals.  You could have either one, but typically we pair a male instructor with a female student and a female instructor with a male student.

Should I work with more than one instructor?

We recommend that you work with several different instructors and we encourage our instructors to “team-teach” their students.  All of our instructors are highly trained and can bring different perspectives to each students’ lesson. Additionally, when you have more than one instructor you will never have to miss lessons when a teacher is sick or away at a competition.

Where can I find dance shoes?

We have teamed up with DanceTrenz.com and now carry a wide selection of dance shoes in stock at our studio. In addition to our inventory, we have quick access to over 500 styles of shoes for dancing. So finding the perfect shoe for you should be a snap.

What are showcases and competitions?

At Colorado Dancesport we have many opportunities for dancers to perform if they so desire. Annually we participate in two local showcases where students can perform their routines in front of an audience, and many competitions held across the US and abroad where students can compete against peers.

A showcase is a performance where the student really gets to shine. He or she gets to choose their own music to have a routine choreographed to, and then they can perform with an amateur partner or their professional.

We hold our annual studio showcase in February at Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater.

By contrast, competitions choose the music and put all of the dancers in a given category on the floor at the same time. They offer various age levels from the very young to the young at heart. Additionally, most competitions are set up to offer skill levels that appeal to everyone.

There are seven main stlyes of dance competition. They include: American Rhythm, American Smooth, International Latin, International Standard, Same-Sex, West Coast Swing, and Country Western.

At Colorado Dancesport we create many opportunities for you to compete at everything from small, one day competitions to National and World Championships.

Can I just learn to dance recreationally?

Absolutely!

Our goal at Colorado Dancesport is to get everyone on the dance floor.  We cater our instruction to each student’s needs and goals.  If you only want to dance recreationally we will make you the best social dancer you can be.
